Cannes workshop: How can you respond to the climate emergency?
19 June 2023How can you best take the most positive action in responding to the climate emergency?
On Monday, as part of Ad Net Zero’s presence at Cannes Lions, we held an engaging session from Sebastian Munden, our Ad Net Zero chair, and Jordan Hunter-Powell, Head of Global Campaigns & Stakeholder Engagement for Social Impact at dentsu.
The urgency of the climate crisis “requires the whole of the economy to be rethought,” Seb began. It is a massive opportunity for us to reframe our global economy.
The session took the audience through Ad Net Zero’s comprehensive 5-step action plan, and how it offers supporters pre-competitive collaboration, tools and training to help close the gap between good intentions and clear action. Our aim is to accelerate the journey to a net zero economy, Seb added.
Dentsu’s Jordan Hunter-Powell built on the opportunity for our industry. An estimated 59% of the transition to a net zero economy is down to human behavioural change – this is the opportunity for advertising’s superpower to step in.
To help the industry understand some instances of best practice in behaviour change, the inaugural Campaign Ad Net Zero Awards 2022 provide great inspiration. The audience was walked through three campaigns: Sky Zero Footprint Fund, Hellmann’s and Mindshare’s “Cook Clever, Waste Less” and a newer campaign – not featured in last year’s awards – Channel 4’s partnership with Vinted.
In a final poll, the audience agreed with the Awards judges and voted for the Hellmann’s campaign, once again taking the Grand Prix prize.
