Action 1

Reduce emissions across Business Operations

This is how you can make progress against Action 1:

Set a public science-based net-zero target – a clearly defined pathway to net zero in line with the Paris Agreement. Setting a target is a necessary first step to creating reduction plans.

  • This means the latest date to reach net zero (in line with the latest climate science) is 2050.
  • If you choose to split out a near term reduction target and longer term net zero target, our recommendation is a near term reduction target for 2030, with a supporting long term target for hitting net zero, which can be 2050 at the latest.
  • As an example, in keeping with our highest level of ambition, a near-term target could be committing to a net zero target for Scopes 1 and 2 of 2030.
  • We recommend validating your science-based target. You can do this through organisations like the Science Based Targets initiative.
  • We recommend making this public via your website, a commitment to the UN Race to Zero (including via the SME Climate Hub), The Climate Pledge, or other comparable alternatives.
  • Calculate and report emissions annually and publicly.

All supporters are encouraged to calculate their scopes 1 – 3 greenhouse gas emissions annually and to work towards publicly reporting this data. SMEs and organisations at an earlier stage may share emissions data directly with Ad Net Zero as a first step.

Ad Net Zero’s Action 1 Guide has more information on how to put this into practice.
